In a desire to assist you in your walk with Christ, Pastor Dan and I have put together some recommended reading lists. We do so always remembering what the Bible teaches us. Ecc.12:12- My son, beware of anything beyond these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh. The Christian world abounds with many books and we can spend a lifetime in reading and studying the materials that are available to us. However, we would like to stress that there are no books that we will read that will ever come close to the Scriptures. There are a great many books that we can read but there is only one book that we must read. We are not attempting to take away from your time in Bible reading to encourage you to read other books. In fact it would be a wise course of action that for every hour you spend in any book, you spend two in the Word of God. Books are not a substitute for the Scriptures but a support for our reading of the Scriptures. We would also encourage you to measure every book that you read by the Bible, both as to its truth and content. The Bible is truth and any book teaches truth to the degree that it lines up with the Word. Also it defines for us the content of books. There are lots of subjects that may interest us, but all content of books must be measured, as to their worth, by the Scriptures. Paul tells us: 2Tim.3:16-17- All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. No other work can make this claim. So, again, these lists are to supplement your Bible reading. They will only be of value to you to the degree that you are in God’s word. In that light, we encourage you to read books, but most of all your Bible.
